LANYARDS
A lanyard is a cord or strap worn around the neck carry identification cards.
You might be surprised to learn that lanyards date back to 15th century France. The word lanyard actually comes from the French word, “laniere” which was a strap-on apparatus that would allow French soldiers to keep weapons and other items close to hand.
And whilst, we’re used to seeing some pretty fancy lanyards today, the first lanyards were just simple straps made of rope or cord found aboard the ship and tied around a pistol, sword or whistle.
Lanyards, also known as card holders, are strings or straps that are used around the neck to hold and display identity cards. In recent years, they have become increasingly popular as a result of growing security concerns nation-wide.
Lanyards are commonly used to display badges, tickets or ID cards for identification where security is required, such as businesses, corporations, hospitals, prisons, conventions, trade fairs, schools, government agencies and backstage passes used in the entertainment industry.
There are several types of ID badge lanyards available in the market. There are various types such as the retractable badge holders and sports lanyards, to name a few. They are rolled, woven, broken and not broken.
ID BADGE HOLDERS
We stock a large range of ID badge holders suitable for a range of applications – from protecting staff ID cards with a rigid badge holder, to lightweight flexible wallets for visitor passes and conferences. For everyday use with staff ID cards, we recommend a hard-wearing rigid badge holder – either open faced or enclosed. Our open-faced holders are available in a range of colors to match your companies branding and are available as both single sided or double sided, and landscape and portrait formats. For enclosed badge holders, again available are both landscape and portrait are clear and are ideal for staff who need to protect the front of an ID card from scratches.
We also supply a rigid half badge holder that is ideal for use with magnetic stripe access control points. For paper visitor passes and conferences we offer a range of flexible holders and pouches from credit card size up to A6. Some of the ranges have colored tops to enable a quick visual check of passes issued.
For security guards and door security, we recommend not using a lanyard with the badge holders but to use an armband badge holder instead. All our badge holders are suitable for use with lanyards, retractable badge reels, clips and pins.
ID BADGE REELS
A badge reel also known as a retractable badge reel is, in its most basic form, a square or round shaped casing that contains a retractable cord. This cord connects to a badge holder. It typically measures 1.25″ in diameter and has a belt clip on the back for attaching the badge reel to clothing.
There are different types of clips used as the clothing attachment on the badge reel. Spring clips, belt clips, and closed-end pins are variations of clips used to hook the retractable badge reel to your clothing. The cord is typically 27-36 inches long and is attached to a spring mechanism within the casing which allows the cord to retract when pulled.

NAME TAGS
A name tag is a badge or sticker worn on the outermost clothing bearing the name of the wearer displaying the name of its owner for others to view. Name tags may be temporary, such as a sticker with the iconic image being the “Hello! My Name Is ________”; or it may be a more durable type.
There are many types of name tag backings, including magnetic backings, locking pins, swivel clips, military clutch pins, alligator clips, and cell phone attachments. Magnetic backings, because they do not puncture clothing with pins, have recently become more popular for name tags.
